American Politics

lundi 13 mai 2013

In the USA, the political system relies on 3 fundamental principles : republic, democracy and federacy.
It’s defined by the constitution of 1787.

The United States of America were created in the 18th century after the War of Independence against British monarchy.

The United-States are :

The first political and military power, and the first financial power in the world.
They’re the first producer of energy in the world and the first for trade.
They have a role of international arbitrator, have the first military budget and they’re everywhere in the world.

- President + administration = executive power
- Supreme Court + appropriate systems in States =judicial power
- Congress of the United-States = legislative power

The president of the USA is elected for 4 years.

To be a candidate for presidential election, it’s necessary to :
- be born citizen of the USA
- be more than 35 years old
- have been living in the USA for 14 years

The conditions to vote are :
- be 18.
- have American nationality

There are small political parties in The USA, like the Green Party, the Reform Party or the Constitution Party...
But the two major parties are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.

The Democratic Party was created in 1792.
Their color is Blue and their symbol is the donkey.
They would like to have a united society.
They are in good understanding with the UNO and the international penal court.

They support laws for homosexuals , environment protection, abortion laws , trade unions and immigrants.

The official candidate of the democratic party for the presidential election is Barack Obama.

Barack Obama was born on August 4th in Honolulu, in Hawaii and he is the 44th president of the United-States and the 1st black president of the USA.
He spent several years in Indonesia, he is a graduate of the Colombia University and of the Harvard Faculty.
After that, he was a social worker, a lawyer in civil law, and a teacher at the University of Chicago.
Then, he entered politics in 1996. He was at first elected to the Senate of Illinois from 1997 to 2004, senator of the United States in November 2004 and has been president of the United States since 2009.

The Republican Party was founded in 1854. It’s called the Grand Old Party too.
Their symbol is the elephant.
The Republican party is a conservative party of traditional values.
They distrust the UNO and they prefer to manage themselves in war time.

Some ideas of the republican party :

They are opposed to laws in favor abortion, to protect the foetus ’s life, to laws in favor of homosexuals, to darwinism and all scientific theories which would contradict their faiths.
They distrust environmental organizations, support private companies rather than trade unions.

The official candidate of the Republican Party for the presidential election was Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney was born on March 4th 1947, in Detroit, Michigan.
He ’s graduated from Harvard University, Brigham Young University and Stanford University.
He entered politics in 1994.
He was a candidate for the Senate, but it was a failure.
He was candidate for primary election in 2007 too, but it was a failure again.
Since 2002, he has been governor of Massachusetts.
In 2012, he was candidate for the presidential election.
